Getting started

You can be making your first sandbox payment in four steps.

1. Create a developer account

Register with your name, email and password, then verify your email address.

2. Register an application

In the dashboard, open Applications and create one. Give it a name, a description, your website and a callback URL. Each application gets its own app_ identifier.

3. Generate API credentials

Open API Keys, choose your application and environment, and generate a key pair. The secret is shown once. Store it in your server's secret manager.

4. Link an authorised merchant account

A payment cannot be initiated until the application is linked to a merchant account whose M-PESA shortcode has been verified and authorised. In sandbox you can create a merchant account and it is authorised for testing immediately.
